WHY MOUNTAIN FITNESS®

How much further? At last, Mountain Fitness® has the answer!

Mountain Fitness® is a project that for the first time ever, promotes mountains as a sports arena and source of health and wellbeing.

What’s new? The Mountain Fitness® algorithm. Based on exclusive scientific research it elaborates the projected time of arrival and calorie consumption for every user category and on any trail, just with a course GPS!

That’s not all. It’s enough to send your biometrics and the new #MYMOUNTAINFITNESS formula will deliver your personalised projected arrival time and calorie consumption.

Mountain Fitness® is a unique tool benefitting tourists and tourism across health, sport and safety.

HOW MUCH FURTHER? THE DEFINITIVE ANSWER

The maximum time to cover a given trail for the various categories, from beginner to athlete, is information that every organisation can and must provide for their trails for prevention and safety.

At last, the question “How much further?” has a precise answer. Did you know that *44% of accidents in the mountains are due to hikers? This is mainly because of lack of information and the ability to assess their arrival times accurately.

Now, Mountain Fitness® can provide this information online to everyone (beginner, hiker, athlete). Fast, free and in advance!

HOW THE ALGORITHM WORKS

By comparing tests carried out on the Mountain Fitness® Trails the average speed and vertical climb relative to the various categories was developed. By cross checking the metabolic costs on the various inclines (see Scientific Research), with the segmented profile of the trail, the times and necessary calories are elaborated.

With the analysis of the GPS profile of each trail, the algorithm elaborates the data for three categories, from beginner/family, to hiker and athlete. By inserting the user’s biometrics and fitness level, the exact projected maximum time and the calories necessary to complete the trail are calculated. See for yourself! #MYMOUNTAINFITNESS

THREE USER CATEGORIES - FROM BEGINNER TO ATHLETE

Three Mountain Fitness®categories have been identified to cover the widest possible range of users. Find your category by checking the parameters below.

When you go to the Mountain Fitness® Trails section, you will know your arrival time and calorie consumption for the trails of your choice – before you go! If you want to know your personalised data, just click on #MYMOUNTAINFITNESS and our experts will elaborate it.

Find your category by checking the parameters below.

BEGINNER/FAMILY: walking continuously for 1 hour to cover at least 3 km and/or 200m of vertical climb.

HIKER: walking continuously for 2 or 3 hours to cover at least 6 km and/or 500m of vertical climb.

ATHLETE: walking or running continuously for 3 hours to cover at least 10 km and/or 800m of vertical climb.

To understand your fitness level, consider all the above parameters. How long are you able to keep up a good pace? How far and how much vertical climb can you do in the given time?

It’s not a race! It’s necessary to elaborate the safety factor and to choose a trail that meets your needs.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Mountain Fitness® is the first outdoor project “conceived” in the laboratory! Mountain Fitness® is the first outdoor project “conceived” in the laboratory! The scientific data*, with the elaboration of an exclusive algorithm, have given life to a new approach to the mountains – an extraordinary tool to reach or maintain a good level of fitness for everyone in a natural and healthy environment.

The Mountain Fitness® project was developed from studies conducted on a number of top skyrunners at Geneva University on a special treadmill that can reach a 45% incline, the only one of its kind in the world.

The aim of the studies was to establish the maximum uphill and downhill performance and energy costs at various inclines.

Together with additional data collected from skyrunning race performance data and tests on various fitness categories enabled an algorithm to be created and the “Mountain Fitness®” concept to be established.Applied to trails, together with other parameters including the GPS reading, the end user can access a valid and efficient tool to test their fitness level, to lose weight and to stimulate heart, muscles and mind in a healthy, natural environment – for free.

Some simple data emerged from the studies: by walking uphill you burn up to 10 times more calories with respect to the flat!
